Using simulation and through the augmentation of human intelligence we are going to build more understanding and reframe how we all see the world.
Founded by simulation expert Justin Lyon in 2016, Simudyne graduated from the Barclays TechStars programme in 2017 and Mastercard Start Path in 2018. We have since expanded rapidly with a team of first-class talent, including PhDs with a wealth of expertise in financial services and beyond.
We are active participants in the journey
We strive to create products and systems that ignite change at an emotional, attitudinal and behavioral level.
We take a step by step approach
We believe that real change comes from incrementally involving the way people think, one step, one decision at a time.
We put better tools in the hands of people
We see technology as an enabler and are obsessed with making it as simple and elegant to use as possible.
We are on a journey together to transform how people make decisions. This is not just a job, it’s a mission; we see ourselves as missionaries rather than mercenaries, as advanced tool makers, agents of change and navigators of the unknown. We are always looking for people with curious minds who want to join us on our journey to transform how people make decisions. If this sounds like you, then please get in touch.
“Every decision of consequence should be subject to a computer simulation.”
Ever since his studies at MIT in System Dynamics, Justin Lyon, Founder and CEO of Simudyne, has been fascinated by applications of AI and machine learning to inform decision-making. As a serial technology entrepreneur, he has been at the forefront of the ways in which these technologies will enable the world’s business, government and civic leaders to shape a better world for the next generation. “When I was a wrangler in South Africa, I rode a hippo in the water. Her name was Jessica”.
“Coming from a war-torn country, I experienced first-hand the consequences of poor decision making. We need to do better, and simulation is the path forward.”
A Fulbright scholar with a graduate degree in mass communication and a career with the United Nations overseas and in corporate communications in London, Dahlia joined Justin Lyon on a Department of Defence contract in Iraq for advanced analytics and they started Simudyne. They went on to do all sorts of interesting simulation projects for clients all over the world and she has never looked back! “My three little girls are my pride and joy. What we are doing at Simudyne is ground breaking not only for their future but for humanity as a whole”.
“Simudyne provides a wonderful environment to design calibration algorithms. We have so many interesting problems that it’s easy to test and develop new ideas. I really enjoy the challenge that comes with calibrating cutting edge models for production environments and thinking of new ways to blur the lines between simulation and reality.”
Amir was a postdoctoral researcher at the Capital Fund Management – Imperial College, Institute of Quantitative Finance with Rama Cont, Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) in the Centre d’Économie de la Sorbonne in Paris with Antoine Mandel as part of the EU Horizons 2020 DOLFINS project and Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies with Andrea Roventini as part of the EU Horizons 2020 ISIGrowth project. He received his PhD in Machine Learning from INRIA-Lille in France under the supervision of Rémi Munos and Alessandro Lazaric. “I keep sharp by calibrating the grain variety, water hardness and air pressure of my coffee machine with a bandit algorithm.”
“I can see simulation being used in every vertical, from health and life sciences to supply chain to defense. In fact, I don’t see an area out there where we couldn’t use simulation.”
Felicity got her undergraduate degree in Biomedical Science and her master’s degree in Stem Cells and Tissue Engineering. She joined Simudyne after positions at Goldman Sachs and Thomson Reuters. She’s a big foodie – “I once ate 18 oysters and did not regret a single moment of it.”
“I like that every day is different. I get the chance to work with some of the smartest people in the industry to solve some of the world’s toughest challenges.”
Chloe graduated from Cardiff University with a degree in English Literature and is CIM qualified in Digital Marketing. Over the past eight years she has worked as a content specialist in a range of technology companies. She is a self-proclaimed animal lover – “I have pipe dreams of owning a petting zoo one day”.
“I can see simulation being an amazing tool that can benefit people and communities rather than just lining people’s pockets. It can be used to do good.”
After leaving university where she studied Law, Omnea worked in youth development at the Commonwealth Secretariat for 10 years. In her next life, she would like to be a mango – “because who doesn’t like mangoes?!”
“It’s challenging and fast paced and cool to be part of something new that you can build from scratch. I just like solving problems and working with people (sometimes!)”
Naomi graduated from the Open University in Computer Science and Maths, and previously worked at the Financial Times as a Software Engineer. In her spare time, she is a crochet whiz– “I like to crochet everything!”
“What we are working on is cutting edge, from machine learning to AI and agent-based models. I have to bring creative ideas every day in order to deliver the most innovative software.”
Dashan studied at Cardiff University where he completed his PhD in Computer Science. After positions at UBS, Visa and Citibank he decided to join Simudyne. He likes to swim in his spare time – “That’s if I’ve got spare time… at the weekend I usually do childcare!”
“Before joining, I looked at what Simudyne were trying to do and I thought – that is the future. I wanted to be part of it.”
Sezin trained as an interior designer and studied Art for her master’s degree. After pivoting into the very different world of software engineering, she became specialized in agile project development. Her favourite activity? Chasing soap bubbles – “I love them. If I see them, I’ll chase them and claim them!”
“Feeling like you’re at the forefront of something new – that’s what excites me. I think simulation is going to be a big part of the world in the coming years and I want to be at the forefront of that.”
Michael joined Simudyne a year ago after graduating from Theoretical Physics from Edinburgh University. He has an unusual choice in footwear – “I wear furry crocs to work…”
“The ability to reach fifteen years into the future and pull it into today. That to me is a tremendously exciting prospect.”
Adam has experience in markets like London, New York, Moscow, Dubai and Hong Kong. He has worked for banks like J. P. Morgan and Citigroup but began his career at Ogilvy working with early stage technology companies. He is a real science fiction nerd.
“Having spent over 30 years in the Financial Services arena I have never seen anything as advanced as our Simulation models, the scope of use cases is incredible.”
John spent 14 years trading before moving into Enterprise Software sales into Investment Banks and FS organisations globally. He joined Simudyne after many successful years at SunGard (FIS) and SoftwareAG and is now loving the fast pace and agility of a start up. A keen home cook, loves football and spending time with the family – “Bit cheesy but true!”
“I love working in such a diverse environment – I get to learn a lot from different people here. Everyone is so driven.”
Omer is interning at Simudyne as part of his degree in Computer Science and Philosophy at Columbia University in New York. Chess can make or break his day – “If I win, I’m Einstein. If not, then watch out!”
